30th Mozart Festival in Warsaw "Songs Sung at Night"

WOKThe jubilee Mozart Festival includes not only opera performances or spectacular symphonic and oratorio concerts, but also presentations of chamber music. The concert entitled "Songs sung at night" will be held on 6 June 2021 at 6.00 p.m. at the Palace on the Isle at Łazienki Park in Warsaw.

2021 is a special year for the Warsaw Chamber Opera, which 60th anniversary coincides with the 30th edition of the Mozart Festival in Warsaw, postponed from 2020 due to the pandemic. The Mozart Festival, established in 1991, is a phenomenon on a global scale. The anniversary edition is filled with premieres and new creative challenges.

The concert on 6 June features both Mozart's works as well as pieces written in his style or inspired by his oeuvre. Twelve-year-old guitarist Piotr Piętal, a young artist with extraordinary talent, will perform fragments of the opera The Magic Flute transcribed for guitar, which is an unprecedented event in the thirty-year history of the Festival. The transcription was made by Francisco Sor, or José Fernando Macarurio Sors, a legendary Spanish guitarist and composer who lived at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. The second part of the concert is dedicated to Bartłomiej Marusik's songs to the poetry of Leopold Staff and Bolesław Leśmian. The title of the cycle Songs Sung at Night obviously evokes associations with nocturnes or Mozart's Serenata Notturna in D major. The songs will be performed by the excellent mezzo-soprano Agnieszka Rehlis and the world-famous guitarist Krzysztof Meisinger.
