As part of this year's long-term project "Great Composers – Great Anniversaries", the idea of which is to honour the memory of brilliant artists, the second weekend of June will be devoted to Igor Stravinsky.
This year marks the 50th death anniversary of the Russian composer, author of such groundbreaking works as The Rite of Spring and Firebird. On this occasion, the Toruń Symphony Orchestra has prepared four different events. You will be able to attend a symphonic concert preceded by an introductory meeting led by Andrzej Sułek, piano recitals, meetings with artists as well as to watch Michał Szymanowski's lecture on Piano Work by Igor Stravinsky on the orchestra's YouTube channel.
The programme of the events on 11-13 June 2021 includes not only the works of the "composer of a thousand and one styles". We will also hear pieces by Fryderyk Chopin, Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Zygmunt Stojowski, Karol Szymanowski and Marek Tomaszewski. They will be perfromed by outstanding soloists, winners of prestigious music competitions – piano virtuosos Krzysztof Książek and Michał Szymanowski. Fragments of Stravinsky's ballets and Mike Oldfield's film music will be presented in extremely interesting arrangements by Marek Tomaszewski. The concert on 11 June, "Fireworks," will also mark the end of the 42nd artistic season of the Toruń Symphony Orchestra, which will perform under the baton of maestro Dainius Pavilionis.
