Kraków | 7th Sinfonietta Festival at the National Museum

SCOn 1 July 2021, Sinfonietta Cracovia will inaugurate the 7th Sinfonietta Festival with an interdisciplinary concert "Musical antibodies – music and immunology", which will be graced by a multimedia lecture by distinguished guests associated with the Medical University of Vienna: Prof. Maria Sibilia and Prof. Manfred Hecking, co-authors of the very popular Viennese series of "science concerts" Sounds and Science.

Together with the excellent guests of the Festival, the audience will have the opportunity to go on a musical journey through immunology and learn the medical history of some of the greatest composers. The concert programme will also include the most outstanding compositions inspired by mathematics and other sciences, including works by Aleksander Borodin, Anton Webern, Witold Lutosławski and Krzysztof Penderecki.

"Chamber clubbing" in the branches and gardens of the National Museum in Kraków is a proposal that combines the form of a traditional concert with the spirit of clubbing: five concerts by outstanding Polish chamber ensembles held simultaneously in various locations will end with the open-air finale with the participation of Massimo Mercelli – an outstanding Italian flutist, who will perform the Polish premiere of Michael Nyman's Two pieces dedicated to him.

During the final concert of the Sinfonietta Festival in Sukiennice, entitled "Density. The Physical Phenomenon of Sound" Massimo Mercelli will perform the famous piece Density 21.5 for solo flute by Edgar Varèse – composed for the concert premiere of his platinum flute. In addition, Sinfonietta Cracovia will premiere the winning piece of the 7th International Composition Competition "Sinfonietta per Sinfonietta" for string orchestra and theremin obbligato.
