Warsaw | "Stage for Polish Music": Messages Quartet and Julia Kociuban

Messages QuartetThe Messages Quartet and pianist Julia Kociuban will perform on 26 October 2021 at 7.00 p.m. as part of the "Polish Music Stage" artistic programme carried out by the National Institute of Music and Dance in cooperation with the Warsaw Philharmonic.

Polish music of the twentieth century still hides many undiscovered, wonderful works, and the discovered ones still need promotion and publicity, so that the oeuvre of outstanding composers is not forgotten. Grażyna Bacewicz's two piano quintets – one of the artist's most popular chamber works  – will be performed at the Warsaw Philharmonic. Although the first quintet, written in noeclassical style, sometimes appears on concert posters, the second one – more sonoristic in style – is performed much less frequently.

The concert will end with Alexandre Tansman's Musica a cinque for string quartet and piano. It is a five-movement piece written at a time when the composer enjoyed international fame. The premiere recording of the work will be released on the album of Julia Kociuban and Messages Quartet. The juxtaposition of these two composers in the concert programme is not accidental: they are united not only by the common city of birth, but also by numerous trips around Europe, the musical language and their love for chamber music.

The concert is co-organized by the National Institute of Music and Dance as part of its own program "Polish Music Stage", financed by the Minister of Culture, National Heritage and Sport.
