Warsaw | Krzysztof Penderecki in Memoriam

PandereckiOn 23 November 2021 Krzysztof Penderecki, one of the most important Polish composers, long-term music and artistic director of Sinfonia Varsovia, would celebrate his 88th birthday. A concert dedicated to his memory will be held on 28 November 2021 at the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera.

In the 2018/2019 season, we could listen to a concert dedicated to Krzysztof Penderecki's Birthday, and three seasons later it was time for In memoriam. Of course, it is not possible to mention the enormous achievements of the Master in one evening. He wrote four operas, eight symphonies and many instrumental concerts, smaller instrumental and chamber pieces as well as choral settings of mostly religious texts. Moreover, he was an active teacher and conductor. His most famous works: Symphony No. 3, St. Luke's Passion, Polish Requiem and Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima are performed all over the world. Penderecki has become a national treasure of our culture, the most famous and respected Polish composer of the 20th century. The Master is gone, his music will stay with us. In memoriam.

The programme of the upcoming concert will include Chaconne for trio (2021) by Krzysztof Penderecki and Jeajoon Ryu performed by the Penderecki Trio (Andrzej Wierciński – piano, Mateusz Makuch – violin, Claudio Bohorquez – cello), as well as Krzysztof Penderecki's Double Concerto with Jakub Haufa (violin) and Ryszard Groblewski (viola), and Symphony No. 6 with Stephan Genz (baritone) and Joanna Krachenko (erhu). The Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra will be conducted by Maciej Tworek.
