The final auditions of the 14th International Piano Competition of Orléans will take place on 31 October 2020. Thanks to the fruitful cooperation of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and the Competition organisers, Chamber Piano Concerto by Agata Zubel is a compulsory piece in the final's repertoire.
The International Piano Competition of Orléans has been held since 1994. It remains the only piano competition in the world to focus on the contemporary repertoire. It brings the piano repertoire of the 20th and 21st centuries to a consistently growing audience, reveals the talent of young artists and follows them from the beginning and throughout their carrier. Due to the uniqueness, the International Piano Competition of Orléans has developed a solid international reputation and is an affiliated member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions (WFIMC), Alink-Argerich Foundation, and Futurs Composés.
Chamber Piano Concerto is one of Agata Zubel's latest pieces. Its world premiere took place on 20 October 2018 during the Donaueschinger Musiktage festival. The composer has taken part in many projects of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, she has also written several works commissioned or co-commissioned by the Institute, including Fireworks (2018), for which she received the European Composer Award.
The three finalists of the French competition will be accompanied by the Ensemble Intercontemporain conducted by Simon Proust. One of the finalists will recceive the "Polska Music" award funded by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute. An honourable mention worth EUR 2,000 will be awarded for the best performance of Agata Zubel's work.
