Vienna | Premiere of 'The Ancient Night' by Wojciech Chałupka in the Golden Hall of Musikverein

On the 30th of April 2022 at 7.30 p.m. a premiere of a composition The Ancient Night for soprano saxophone, accordion and symphony orchestra by Wojciech Chałupka - a third-year student in composition class of Prof. Dariusz Przybylski at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music will take place in the legendary Golden Hall of Vienna Musikverein.

The title of the piece refers to the pagan festival of Kupala Night. On that night of the summer solstice rituals were performed to worship fire, water, sun, moon, fertility and love. The five parts of The Ancient Night allude to them.

The piece was commissioned by Duo Aliad composed of Polish saxophonist Michał Knot and the Serbian accordionist Bogdan Laketic. The ensemble and the Wiener Jeunesse Orchestra conducted by Herbert Böck will present the composition to the audience for the first time. The artists will also perform works by Franz Schubert and Igor Stravinsky.

Anna Sowa's stage work at the opening of an Italian opera festival

SowaExperimental music theater Silenzio / Silence with music of Polish composer Anna Sowa will open this year’s edition of the Opera Festival ‘Larger Than Life’ – event organized by Italian Fondazione Haydn Stiftung. First performances of the new production will take place on the 4th and 6th of March 2022 in theatres in Bolzano and Trento. Witty and surreal libretto was written by Martina Badiluzzi who together with Anna Sowa directed the performance.

Silenzio / Silence is a winner of the ‘Fringe Volume III’ competition for an avantgarde opera project. It’s a pocket-opera created for a small group of performers. Instrumental and electronic music combo joins different music styles together into a dynamic and shivering frenzy.

Anna Sowa presented her compositions at many internationally recognized festival among others at Warsaw Autumn, Sacrum Profeanum in Cracow or ECLAT Festival Neue Musik in Stuttgart.

Silenzio / Silence is a winner of the ‘Fringe Volume III’ competition for an avantgarde opera project. It’s a pocket-opera created for a small group of performers. Instrumental and electronic music combo joins different music styles together into a dynamic and shivering frenzy.

Prague | 'Made in Poland': Kwartludium concert in Prague

Kwartludium ensemble which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year was invited to take part in a ‘Made in Poland’ concert by Berg Orchestra. The event will take place on the 7th of March 2022 in Prague. The two groups will work together on the project.

Berg Orchestra has been performing contemporary music for over 20 years using collaboration with partners from all over the world as a main tool of activity. Cycles of concerts organized by Berg Orchestra belong to the most prestigious events promoting contemporary music in Czech Republic.

The programme of the upcoming concert will consist of works by Polish composers recognized internationally: Chamber Piano Concerto of Agata Zubel, 3 for 13 of Paweł Mykietyn, Geysir Grisey of Marcin Stańczyk as well as Obraz wielokrotny of Tadeusz Wielecki.

All compositions will be performed in Czechia for the first time. The artistic director of the Berg Orchestra Peter Vrabel will be leading the project.
