The Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music will celebrate its 90th jubilee on February 14, 2019 at 6.00 p.m. in the Archdiocesan Museum in Katowice.

The Institution for the Promotion and Dissemination of Music "Silesia" invites you to the next concert of the "Vivat Academia!" series, which include meetings with outstanding artists and professors at the Karol Szymanowski Music Academy in Katowice. The guest of the evening will be Professor Eugeniusz Knapik, who was the Rector of the Academy in 2002-2008 and for many years was the head of the Department of Composition and Theory of Music. He studied composition with Henryk Mikołaj Górecki and piano with Czesław Stańczyk, and still as a student, he began his didactic work at the Katowice Academy. He was the first performer of the cycle Vingt regards sur l'enfant-Jésus by Olivier Messiaen in Poland. As a pianist, he participated in many prestigious concert and festival events around the world. As a composer, he received many awards at national and international competitions, including the UNESCO International Composers' Tribune in Paris (1978 – distinction and 1984 – 1st place for String Quartet).

In the concert part of the evening, an outstanding singer Ewa Biegas, a graduate and currently a teacher at the Music Academy in Katowice, together with Eugeniusz Knapik will perform his songs to the words of Krzysztof Ildefons Gałczyński as well as Maurice Ravel's Greek Songs. The famous Silesian cellist Adam Krzeszowiec will perform Knapik's Filo d'Arianna for cello solo, which was recorded on a CD released by Radio Katowice.

Instytut Adama Mickiewicza ogłasza kolejny otwarty nabór delegatów na targi muzyczne Classical:NEXT, które odbędą się w dniach 15-18 maja 2019 roku w Rotterdamie.

Classical:NEXT łączy formułę targów i konferencji branżowej. Stwarza uczestnikom możliwość swobodnych spotkań z najważniejszymi przedstawicielami międzynarodowego środowiska muzycznego, sieciowania, udziału w licznych konferencjach tematycznych i śledzenia najnowszych trendów w branży (w tym zastosowania nowych technologii w muzyce klasycznej).

Mając na uwadze potrzebę rozwoju polskiego rynku muzyki klasycznej oraz promocji jego potencjału za granicą, Instytut Adama Mickiewicza po raz trzeci organizuje stoisko polskie na Classical:NEXT i oferuje akredytacje na to prestiżowe wydarzenie. Nabór adresowany jest do tych organizatorów życia muzycznego (zarówno prywatnych, jak i instytucjonalnych), którzy pragną promować polskich artystów za granicą, rozszerzać sieć kontaktów i dystrybucji, podejmować współpracę z międzynarodowymi partnerami, a przede wszystkim mają przemyślaną wizję międzynarodowej obecności artysty, produktu lub firmy/instytucji, które reprezentują. Osoby wyłonione w naborze zostaną zaproszone do wzięcia udziału w targach Classical:NEXT, jako członkowie polskiej delegacji.

On February 13, 2019 at 7:00 p.m., the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin will host a chamber concert. Among others, Kazimierz Serocki's work will be performed.

The genre of sonata, meaning a purely instrumental composition (in contrast to the vocal cantata), appeared without a strictly defined form at the end of the 16th century. In Baroque, two types of sonatas were distinguished: da camera (courtly), resembling the construction of multi-part suites, and da chiesa (church), composed of four alternating slow and fast movements. In Baroque music one can also encounter sonatas a due, a tre, a quattro, etc., which meant the number of melodic instruments that were always accompanied by basso continuo. Such sonatas in a cast of up to seven instruments were written by a representative of the early Baroque, Austrian violinist Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber, creator of the famous "Rosary Sonatas" (Rosenkranzsonaten). We will listen to Sonata à 3 in D minor for two violins, trombone and basso continuo, which was written in 1679-1680 at the court of Archbishop Maximilian G. von Kuenburg.

The sonata form and its shorter simpler version of sonatina also appeared in the 20th-century music. Sonatina for a trombone and piano from 1954 by Kazimierz Serocki is one of several compositions for trombone resulting from the collaboration with trombonist Juliusz Pietrachowicz. In the three-movement virtuoso Sonatina, Serocki tries to combine traditional music with contemporary composing techniques. Another example from the 20th century is Sonata for clarinet and piano written in 1962 by Francis Poulenc. The piece was commissioned by an American musician associated more often with swing than classical music, Benny Goodman. He wanted to premiere the work together with Poulenc, but it was impossible because of Poulenc’s sudden death. During the premiere at the New York Carnegie Hall, Goodman was accompanied on the piano by Leonard Bernstein.

On February 13, 2019 at 7:30 p.m., the violin quartet Violinofonica will perform at the headquarters of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice as part of the concert series "The Youth's Wednesday".

Violinofnica Violin Quartet was founded in January 2017 by violinist Agnieszka Marucha, along with the most talented students of her class at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music. The ensemble aims to promote a rare repertoire for 4 violins and to help young violin players to gain stage experience. In the artistic season of 2018/2019, the quartet performed at the Ryszard Kapuściński awards ceremony in Warsaw, the Music Salon in Suwałki and the Korean Institute in Warsaw. In July 2018, the quartet debuted abroad during the Bosa Antica Festival in Italy.

The ensemble performs a wide repertoire (from baroque to the latest music), however its core is Polish music, including specifically commissioned works. Among them we will find Silesian Melodies by Weronika Olbrot and Migotanie by Iwona Kisiel, both composed in 2018. These works, which will be performed on February 13 in Katowice, had their world premiere in Italy during the 11th International Festival of Chamber Music of Bosa Antica. In addition, in the band's interpretation, we will listen to Duets on folk themes for two violins and Quartet for four violins by Grażyna Bacewicz, Four Silesian melodies by Witold Lutosławski and works by Joseph Bodin de Boismortier, Georg Friedrich Telemann and Jacob Dont.

During the concert, the Chamber Choir of the Lublin Philharmonic under the direction of Dawid Jarząba will perform a set of works related to different shades of love. The programme will include compositions of J. Rutter, G. Turner, C. Velázquez, A. Ledesm, B. Chilcott, J. Fisher, F. Bridge, as well as compositions by Polish artists: Stanisław Wiechowicz, Karol Mieczysław Prosnak and Jan Maklakiewicz.
