Marcin Tadeusz Łukaszewski,

pianist, music theorist and composer; b. 20th November 1972 in Częstochowa, son of composer Wojciech Łukaszewski. He graduated from the State Higher School of Music in Częstochowa where he learned the piano with Zofia Miller (diploma in 1990) and flute with Bogumiła Tęcza (diploma in 1991). In 1989-91 he also took flute lessons with Elżbieta Dastych-Szwarc. In 1991-96 he studied piano with Bronisława KawallaJan Ekier and Edward Wolanin as well as piano chamber music with Bogna Hałacz at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw (honours degree in 1996). He completed a two-year Postgraduate Study in Contemporary Music Performance with Szabolcs Esztényi (diploma with honours in 1998) as well as a two-year Postgraduate Study in Music Theory (diploma in 2000). In 2005 he obtained his PhD at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw under the supervision of Marek Podhajski. In the years 2012-2016 he completed Postgraduate Composition Studies at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music (FCUM) in Warsaw under the supervision of Marian Borkowski. In 2014 he received a post-doctoral degree in composition and music theory at the FCUM.

Marcin Łukaszewski has won numerous awards and honorable mentions in competitions, including the 1st prize in the 2nd Polish National Solfège Competition in Katowice (1990), the 2nd prize (the 1st prize wasn't awarded) in the Feliks Nowowiejski Competition for Composers in Warsaw for Prologue and Fugue for organ (1996), the 3rd prize in the 1st "Pro Organo" Polish National Competition for Composers for Exegi monumentum (2006); the 2nd prize in the International Wanda Landowska Competition in Warsaw for Action Cembalo (2010), the 1st degree honorable mention for I like modern music in the Open Composition Competition organized as part of the 3rd Henryk Mikołaj Górecki Music Festival in Rydułtowy (2011).

He has received numerous scholarships, including the Artistic Scholarship of the Musica Sacra Association and the Choir of the Academy of Catholic Theology in Warsaw (1996), Artistic Scholarship of the Mayor of Częstochowa (1996), Artistic Scholarship of the Culture Foundation in Warsaw (1997), Artistic Scholarship of the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw (1999), Scholarship of the ZAiKS Association (2003, 2006).

Marcin Łukaszewski's compositions were performed in Poland and abroad, among others in Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Slovakia, Germany, Russia, Canada and the United States. His muisc was presented at such festivals as: "Gaude Mater" International Festival of Sacred Music in Częstochowa (1996, 1997, 1998, 2002), Polish Christmas Carols Festival in Będzin (1997), "Il mondo in musica" International Festival in Fivizzano, Italy (1998), International Choral Song Festival in Międzyzdroje (1998), International Choral Song Competition in Suwałki (1998), Organ Conversatorium in Legnica (1998, 2000), Stanisław Ormiński International Festival of Sacred Music in Rumia (2001, 2002), "Legnica Cantat" National Choir Competition (2001, 2004), "Musica Moderna" Festival in Łódź (2002, 2010), "Musica Sacra" International Festival at the Warsaw-Prague Cathedral (2005), "Akademická Banská Bystrica"  International Choir Festival, Slovakia (2005), 4th "Moscow the City of Peace" International Choir Festival (2005), New Music Festival in Bytom (2010, 2011).

As a pianist he performs both as a soloist and chamber musician. He has participated in such events and festivals as the 1st and 3rd Composers Symposium at the Academy of Music in Warsaw (1999, 2003), Warsaw Music Encounters (1999, 2005), International Music Encounters "At the Sources" in Krynica (1999), 15th Organ Conversatorium in Legnica (2000, 2008), "Warsaw Autumn" International Festival of Contemporary Music (2004), "Laboratory of Contemporary Music" Festival in Warsaw (2004, 2006, 2009), "Musica Moderna" Festival in Łódź (2006, 2007), Passion and Paschal Music Festival in Poznań (2008, 2009), 13th Silesian Days of Contemporary Music in Katowice (2008), Summer Concerts of Chamber Music in Puławy (2007). He has also performed in numerous concert series, including "All piano works of Johannes Brahms" in Warsaw (1997), "Live Edition of All Chopin's Piano Works" in Bialystok (1999), "Live Edition of All Chopin's Piano Works" in Warsaw (1999), "Piotr Perkowski Days – Spring 2001" (concerts at the Academy of Music in Warsaw, the Royal Castle and the National Library), "Portraits of Composers" ("Maciej Zieliński", 2007), "Concerts at the Shister Palace" organised by the Warsaw Music Society (2006), concerts of the FCUM Composition Department and many others.

At the core of Marcin Łukaszewski's repertoire is Polish music of the 19th and 20th centuries. He performs piano works by such composers as: Grażyna Bacewicz, Marian Borkowski, Jan Fotek, Jerzy Kornowicz, Bartosz Kowalski-Banasewicz, Witold Lutosławski, Juliusz Łuciuk, Paweł Łukaszewski, Wojciech Łukaszewski, Krystyna Moszumańska-Nazar, Bolesław Ocias, Piotr Perkowski, Marian Sawa, Kazimierz Serocki , Władysław Słowiński, Tomasz Sikorski, Karol Szymanowski, Marcin Wierzbicki, Maciej Zieliński, Maciej Żółtowski, Artur Żuchowski and his own compositions. He has recorded many albums with Polish music, including 20th Century Polish Piano Music (Acte Préalable, 1999), Franciszek Lessel – Piano Works (Acte Préalable, 1999), Piotr Perkowski – Piano Works (Acte Préalable, 2002 ), Marian Sawa – Piano Works (Musica Sacra Edition, 2006). The double album with Franciszek Lessel's works received a nomination for the "Fryderyk" Award in 2000, while the album with Piotr Perkowski's works was awarded the "Fryderyk" Award for the "Best Solo Music Album" in 2003.

He also performs as a flautist. He took part in such festivals as the Marian Chamber Evenings in Koronowo (2002-2007, 2009), 3rd Composers Symposium at the Academy of Music in Warsaw (2003), 7th Jerzy Popiełuszko Festival for Young Organists and Vocalists in Bydgoszcz (2003), 31st Summer Organ Concerts in Władysławowo and Jastrzębia Góra (2003), Musica Sacra International Festival in the Warsaw-Praga Cathedral (2005), 23rd Organ Conversatorium in Legnica (2008). He has been active in amateur singing groups, including the Choir of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw (1991-2001), also as a pianist, tutor and secretary), the Warsaw Choral Ensemble and the Choir of the Warsaw-Prague Cathedral.

Marcin Łukaszewski is also active as a teacher. In the years 1996-2013 he lectured at the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw. In the years 1999-2001 he also worked at the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Private Music School in Sulejówek, and in 2006-2011 at the High Seminary of the Warsaw-Prague Diocese. Together with Marietta Kruzel-Sosnowska and Aleksandra Gajecka-Antosiewicz, he led workshops on interpreting Marian Sawa's organ, piano and harpsichord music (Częstochowa 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016) as well as workshops on Marian Sawa's music for students of the FCUM's Department of Instrumental and Educational Studies in Białystok (2013) and workshops for piano and harpsichord students of Fryderyk Chopin General Primary and Secondary Music School in Bytom (2014). From 2011 he lectures at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music, from 2015 as a professor. He is the head of the Department of Music Education.

Marcin Łukaszewski's research interests focus on 19th, 20th and 21st century Polish music, especially vocal and vocal-instrumental sacred music, as well as Częstochowa's musical life and piano performance and literature. He has participated in many symposia, scientific sessions, conferences and open lectures. A number of his articles were published in the research bulletins of the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University, the Academy of Music in Warsaw, the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk, the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, the Jan Długosz University in Częstochowa and in the research journals (Seminare, Musica Sacra Nova, Music Quarterly, Saeculum Christianum, Artes, Warsaw-Praga Theological Annals). He has also published more than 300 popular science articles in such magazines as: "Muzyka21", "Twoja Muza", "Niedziela", "Opcja". He is the author of more than a hundred biographical entries in the dictionary Polish Composers 1918-2000, Almanac of Composers of the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music, PWN Encyclopedia of Religion, Biographical Dictionary of Lands of Częstochowa, as well as a number of extensive comments on CDs. In the years 2000-2003 he was a member of the Editorial Board of the "Muzyka21" monthly. He is the editor-in-chief of the "Musica Sacra Nova" annual.

He is a member of the Phonographic Academy of the Fryderyk Award, the Musica Sacra Association, the Laboratiry of Contemporary Music Association, the ZAiKS Association of Authors, the Masovian Scientific Society, the Francis de Sales Scientific Society and the Marian Sawa Society (co-founder, vice president).
