In the midst of wars - Singing! is an album created by Dr. Janusz Siadlak and the Collegium Cantorum Choir of the Częstochowa Philharmonic. The album is part of the publishing series "Anthology of Polish A Cappella Music".

The thematically diverse repertoire of the album shows the multifaceted musical interests of composers during the turbulent interwar period. After all, this period was characterized by unprecedented growth, it was a breakthrough for cinema, music, technology, while feeling the tense situation on the international arena. And it is this extremely intriguing thematic diversity that is the distinguishing factor of the interwar period and the works created in it. The interest in sacred themes, the richness of secular themes, drawing on the tradition and history of Poland, as well as the treasures of national culture - all this creates a very interesting picture of a diverse country, diverse composers who did not limit themselves to one theme, exploring the musical world from different points of view. On the album "In the midst of wars - singing!" there are compositions by Stanisław Wiechowicz (1893-1963), Roman Padlewski (1915-1944), Bolesław Wallek-Walewski (1885-1944), Feliks Nowowiejski (1877-1946), Tadeusz Szeligowski (1896-1963), Tadeusz Zygfryd Kassern (1904 -1957).

"But there is one more kind of song" - writes Maciej Negrey in the CD booklet - "Artistic song, created or sung when the war spread death and destruction all around. Anyway, there is always a war somewhere, sometimes very close. So we are talking about music written and performed as if against all odds, simply from an internal need. Who knows how many of these songs were there, and how many burned down, remained in chests or suitcases buried somewhere deep, impossible to find. But some of them survived the turmoil, and some met a fate better than that of their creators who fell. Some of these songs, these random children and witnesses of the war, are contained in this album.

The album is co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund as part of the "Musical Trace" program implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance.

The publisher of the CD is the Art Development Institute www.instytutsztuki.com
