Poznań | "Poznań Composers and Their Guests"

KompozytorzyPoznanscy 2 12 23The Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań and the Polish Composers' Union would like to invite you to a concert as part of the "Poznań Composers and Their Guests" series, which will be held at the Academy on the 2nd of December, 2023 at 7 p.m. Admission is free!

We will hear works by composers who belong to the Poznań and Wrocław branches of the Polish Composers' Union, performed by Mateusz Ryczek (electronics), Wojciech Jeliński (trombone) and Piotr Nowak (trumpet).

The programme includes Cezary Duchnowski's cROSSFAdE 4 for trombone, trumpet and electronics, Paweł Hendrich's Dualabilis III for trombone and computer, Mateusz Ryczek's Alchemy of Sound for trumpet and electronics, Michał Janocha's Chamber Music V for trombone, trumpet and electronics, Rafał Zapała's Hybryda for trumpet and electronics, and Katarzyna Taborowska-Kaszuba's Frottage for trombone and electronics.

Musicologist Julia Gołębiowska will lead the concert.

Warsaw | Improvisation workshop for children "Tell me a fairy tale" in Mokotów

The Polish Society of Contemporary Music invites children aged 3-8 with their parents to the last free improvisation workshop this year, "Tell me a fairy tale", which will take place on Saturday, on the 2nd of December, 2023 at 11.00 at the Warsaw Multimedia Library for Children and Youth no. XXXI (Tyniecka 40a). As usual, the schedule includes a lot of music, improvisation, playing instruments and fun.

The workshops will be led by improvisers: accordionist Bartosz Kołsut, double bassist Małgorzata Kołcz and composer and pianist Jarosław Siwiński.

In addition to playing with improvisations and books, children will learn various sound extraction techniques that highlight its colorful and dynamic qualities, and they will also be able to play the percussion themselves. Classes last approximately 90 minutes with a short break.

Participation in the workshops is free of charge - the number of places is limited, so prior registration of participants is required.

"Mobile Residencies of New Music Orchestra" 2023

"OMN Mobile Residencies" is a new series of concerts of the New Music Orchestra, which will last until the 20th of December, 2023. The concerts were organized in cooperation with the Academy of Music in Łódź (as part of the 11th AŻ Festival), the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice (as part of the unique 1st International Scientific Symposium "Perspectives of New Media: art - design - science - technology", announcing the celebration of the European City of Science Katowice 2024) and with the Frtderyk Chopin Primary and Secondary Music School in Bytom.

The concert programme includes masterpieces of world musical literature of recent decades combined with the most interesting Polish works of the 20th and 21st centuries, as well as premieres of compositions by artists associated with local artistic circles. The concerts will be accompanied by artistic workshops, lectures and interdisciplinary events. An important element of this project will be the participation of students and ... the audience in performances of some works!

Young musicians are not afraid to improvise, and great interest in the next edition of the Polish Society of Contemporary Music workshops for musical youth "Don't be afraid to improvise" is an excellent proof of this! This time, students of the Henryk Wieniawski Primary Music School No. 5 in Warsaw took part in the workshop on the 2nd of December 2023 at 3:00 p.m. in the PSM Concert Hall (ul. Globusowa 24, Warsaw) with the participation of workshop participants and presenters. Free admission!

The workshops were prepared and conducted by: double bassist Małgorzata Kołcz and composer and pianist Jarosław Siwiński. They have both been using modern methods in education for many years, promoting the idea of ​​teaching improvisation to the youngest, working with children in various parts of Poland.

Warszawa | Premiere of a choreographic show "Encore" in Hashtag Lab

Encore 23 11 23"Encore" - a choreographic show about love with live music by Lucia Długoszewski (1925-2000), an American composer, student of John Cage and Edgar Varèse, choreographer and inventor - will premiere on the 23rd of November, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at Hashtag Lab. Liwia Bargieł-Kiełbowicz and Stanisław Bulder will dance in the modernist villa at Barska 29. Show aimed for ages 16 and up.

“The show 'Encore' is my return to contemplative, metaphysical art. My reflection turns towards love. I look at it at its core, as a primal, pure creative force. We have different motivations to act, but it is love that seems to be the most uplifting to me," says choreographer and dancer Liwia Bargieł-Kiełbowicz.

The music by Lucia Długoszewski will be performed by Zofia Dutkiewicz (flute), Martyna Kułakowska (piano) and Olga Przybył (drums).

Katowice | Premiere performance of Double Concerto "Visions according to Dante" for saxophone, piano and orchestra by Marta Ptaszyńska

On the 30th of November, 2023 at 7.30 p.m. NOSPR, conducted by Danish conductor Bas Wiegers, will premiere Double Concerto "Visions according to Dante" by Marta Ptaszyńska for saxophone, piano and orchestra. The saxophonist Bartłomiej Duś and the pianist Magdalena Duś will perform as soloists.

The programme also includes Siegfried's Idyll written by Ryszard Wagner as a birthday gift for his wife, as well as Grażyna Bacewicz's Serenade for orchestra composed for Polish Radio.

Łódź | 82. Musica Moderna Festival

MusicaModerna 23Young people will decide on the shape and character of the 82nd edition of the Musica Moderna Festival and they will be its main characters.

During the concerts from the 30th of November to the 14th of December, 2023, not only composition students, but also art education students and instrumentalists will present their areas of interest. We will hear the effects of cooperation between completely new ensembles, such as Alert Ensemble, and those with slightly longer experience, including Nowicki Duo and Aldo Duo. Moderna's special guest, the charismatic composer Kuba Krzewiński, will meet the young musicians. There will be plenty of topics concerning Łódź! All festival concerts will be held at the Regional Center for Culture, Education and Music Documentation in Łódź in al. 1 Maja 4. Admission is free.

The festival is organized by the Department of Composition of the Academy of Music in Łódź and the Polish Composers' Union.

Co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund as part of the "Music" programme implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance.

Patronat medialny nad projektem objęło Polskie Centrum Informacji Muzycznej POLMIC.

EuphoriaBracia Meisner prezentują pierwszy wspólny krążek Euphoria zawierający światowe premiery fonograficzne czterech dzieł kompozytorów związanych ze Śląskiem. Płyta z utworami Adama Wesołowskiego i Witolda Friemanna na puzon i fortepian ukaże się nakładem wydawnictwa Ars Sonora i będzie dostępna od 30 listopada 2023 roku w serwisach streamingowych (Spotify, Apple Music) oraz w salonach Empiku i na stronie https://dobreplyty.pl 

Nagranie przedstawia kompozycje wirtuozowskie, poetyckie i prawdziwie unikatowe w wykonaniu puzonisty Jarosława Meisnera i pianisty Mateusza Meisnera.

Płytę rozpoczynają Elegia oraz dwie Suity kontemplacyjne Witolda Friemanna. Tytułowy utwór płyty Euphory Concerto, pierwotnie napisany na eufonium, został zaaranżowany przez Adama Wesołowskiego na puzon specjalnie dla Jarosława Meisnera, a więc dzięki temu wydawnictwu odbędzie się jego premiera fonograficzna w nowym opracowaniu. Po raz pierwszy w wersji na puzon i fortepian zostanie nagrany jeszcze jeden koncert Wesołowskiego: rozszerzone techniki wykonawcze, niekonwencjonalne sposoby gry na puzonie prezentuje Gliss Koncert, otwierający nowy rozdział w literaturze puzonowej.

Results of the 5th Stefan Stuligrosz Grand Prix of Polish Choral Music announced!

GrandPrix 26 11 23On the 26th of November, during the laureates' concert, we announced the winners of the "Competition of Competitions" - the 5th Stefan Stuligrosz Grand Prix of Polish Choral Music!

The main prize - Grand Prix - in the amount of PLN 25,000 and a statuette (passable) was awarded to the Białystok Female Choir at the 3 High School directed by Anna Olszewska.

Two honorable mentions in the amount of PLN 3,000 were awarded to: Skowronki Girls' Choir directed by Alicja Szeluga and La Musica Choir (younger group) directed by Joanna Knap.

The award for the best performance of a work by a Poznań composer in the amount of PLN 3000 for the piece "Cheers to my brother" by Andrzej Koszewski was received by the Poznań University of Technology Choir "Volantes Soni" directed by Paweł Łuczak.
