Bydgoszcz | Premiere performance of 'Stabat Mater' by Piotr Komorowski

Komorowski 5.4.23

The Capella Bydgostiensis Chamber Orchestra and the Academic Choir of the UKW in Bydgoszcz, conducted by Benedykt Odya, will premiere Piotr Komorowski's Stabat Mater on the 5th of April, 2023 at 19.00 at the Pomeranian Philharmonic. The composition was commissioned by the conductor, a professor at the Kazimierz Wielki University.

As Piotr Komorowski, president of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Branch of the Polish Composers' Union, points out: ‘I hope that music can give poetry an additional emotional dimension, enrich it with a space that we can fill with our own thoughts, experiences and feelings. I tried to make the musical language I use personal, modern, and at the same time not lose connection with the great tradition of music in all its richness from the Middle Ages to the present day. I would like the music I composed to speak directly to the hearts of the listeners, to touch those deeply hidden strings of our soul, the existence of which we are sometimes not even aware of.’

There will also be Passion songs arranged by Daniel Pradella.

On the 30th of March, 2023, Mirosław Perz, an outstanding musicologist and educator, an expert in early Polish music, a member of the Polish Composers' Union, chairman of the Musicologists' Section in 1981-1983 and 1991-1993, passed away in Warsaw...

He was a great figure of the Polish musicological community in the field of early Polish music. Among his many scientific achievements is the discovery of the oldest monuments of Polish music in the monastery Sanctuary of St. Kinga in Stary Sącz, marked with the legendary StS signature, and the first monographic edition on Mikołaj Gomółka with a historical interpretation of the Melody for the Polish Psalter. With his scientific consultation, Capella Bydgostiensis, under the direction of Włodzimierz Szymański, made the first recording of all preserved works by Mikołaj from Radom.

We are left with an extraordinary series of broadcasts Two Hundred Cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach made by him in Programme 2 of the Polish Radio. An excellent academic lecturer, beloved by students, director of the Institute of Musicology at the University of Warsaw. An active member of the Polish Composers' Union, chairman of the Musicologists' Section, in 2013 he was awarded the title of Honorary Member. He will remain in his works, on the pages of the encyclopedia and in our memory.

May he rest in peace...
