The primary idea of the Actus Humanus Festival, organized for the first time in 2011, is to introduce the audience to early music, including works associated with Christmas and interpreted by leading period performers from all around the world. The event’s carefully selected repertoire and the unquestioned authorities among the invited musicians have helped turn the City of Gdańsk into one of the focal points on the map of cultural events involving early music. Actus Humanus has been consistently expanding its scope and has become one of the most important festivals of period performance. It has already hosted such eminent personalities as Jordi Savall, Ottavio Dantone, Fabio Biondi, Pierre Hantaï, Pedro Memelsdorff, Antonio Florio, Federico Maria Sardelli, Dominique Visse, Claudio Cavina, Patrizia Bovi, Pino de Vittorio, María Cristina Kiehr, Marcel Pérès, Paul van Nevel, Sonia Prina, Roberta Invernizzi and Alan Curtis, and ensembles: L'Arpeggiata, Le Poème Harmonique, Le Concert des Nations, Europa Galante, I Turchini, Modo Antiquo, Ensemble Clément Janequin, Vox Luminis, La Venexiana, Ensemble Micrologus, Akademia, Mala Punica, Il Pomo d'Oro, Concerto Soave, Ensemble Organum, Fretwork, Huelgas Ensemble and Il Complesso Barocco.
Festival is directed by Filip Berkowicz, organized by event-factory agency and the City of Gdańsk, and co-organized by Polish Radio Programme 2 and National Audiovisual Institute.
