clarinetist; b. 29th December 1980 in Krakow. He received a Master of Arts degree from Krakow Music Academy. He also studied at Mozarteum in Salzburg with Alois Brandhofer and Hochschule fuer Musik und Theater ‘Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’ in Leipzig. He is currently Master’s student at the Juilliard School in New York, studying with Charles Neidich.
He has performed in master classes with: Alan R. Kay, Alois Brandhofer, David Campbell, Philippe Cuper, Jiri Hlavac, Andrzej Janicki, Sharon Kam, Mark Nuccio, Jim Ognibene, Johannes Peitz, Alfred Prinz, and Hakan Rosengren. His chamber music coaches include: Eugene Izotov, Patricia Rodgers, Jim Ognibene, principals from Metropolitan opera Orchestra in New York; Alan R. Kay, Frank Morelli, Ronnie Bauch, members of Orpheus Chamber Orchestra; Fred Sherry, Ayako Oshima and Charles Neidch.
Co-Principal clarinetist of UBS Verbier Festival Orchestra under James Levine, Maciej Bosak has been winning numerous prizes at competitions all over Europe. He was a finalist of European Young Concert Artists International Auditions in Leipzig in 2004, and a year later he won 1st prize for an outstanding interpretation of Four Pieces by Alban Berg, awarded by the Berg Association in Vienna. In 2006 he was awarded 3rd prize at the Audi Mozart Competition in Rovereto, Italy. In addition to winning numerous competitions throughout Poland (Olsztyn, Lublin, Piotrkow Tryb, Wroclaw, Krakow), Maciej Bosak was awarded scholarships from the Polish Ministry of Culture, the President of Krakow City, Sapere Auso Foundation, the Rector of Mozarteum University (Prof. Klaus Ager) and from the Juilliard School (Irene Diamond Graduate Fellowship).
He made his solo debut in 2001 with Krakow Philharmonic Orchestra playing Concertino by Weber. Recently he has also performed with the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento, Gruppe Junge Musik Leipzig, and the Krakow Opera Orchestra among others.
Maciej Bosak is a devoted chamber musician; he has performed in Carnegie Hall’s Weill recital Hall, in Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center and at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig.
He has participated in many festivals including: Verbier Festival, Schleswig Holstein Musik Festival, International Summer Academy in Leipzig, Juilliard Chamberfest, Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart, International Academy Prague-Vienna-Budapest, Internationale Sommerakademie Mozarteum, Buckower Begegnungen in Berlin, International Summer Jazz Academy in Warsaw.
As an orchestra musician Maciej Bosak has performed under many of the world’s leading conductors: Herbert Blomstedt, Semyon Bychkov, James Conlon, Dennis Russell Davies, Helmut Rilling, Paavo Jarvi, James Levine, Fabio Luisi, Kurt Masur, Gianandrea Noseda and Helmut Rilling, Valery Gergiev, Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos, and composers-conductors: John Williams and Krzysztof Penderecki.
He has also been a member of the Orpheus Institute at Juilliard in collaboration with conductorless Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.
Maciej Bosak is a also a gifted composer; he took part in composition master classes with Folke Rabe, Osvaldas Balakauskas and Gerald Trottman. His pieces were performed in Berlin, Salzburg, Krakow and Budapest (Preludium and Fughetta for String Orchestra). He has also premiered many solo and chamber music pieces written by composers from USA, Canada, Spain, Poland, Georgia, Lebanon and Syria.
In his spare time Maciej Bosak also enjoys playing jazz and klezmer, and recorded a CD; he was founding member of the group Klezzmates. With that group he was awarded 2nd prize and special prize donated by Polish TV, at the Radio Competition in Warsaw in 2005.
