Singer (soprano); born November 13, 1958, in Warsaw. She studied at the State Higher School of Music in Warsaw, where she graduated with honors and received the Kazimierz Czekotowski Award.
Already during her studies, she made her debut at the Grand Theatre in Warsaw, joining the artistic crew as a permanent member after graduation. Her roles there included the title role in Giacomo Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, as well as Roxana in Karol Szymanowski’s King Roger; Violetta in La Traviata, Amelia in A Masked Ball, Leonora in The Force of Destiny, Maria in Simon Boccanegra, and Elvira in Ernani by Giuseppe Verdi; Marguerite in Charles Gounod’s Faust; Micaëla in Georges Bizet’s Carmen; Sophie in Richard Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier; Mimì in La Bohème and Liù in Turandot by Giacomo Puccini; Sophie in Jules Massenet’s Werther; Hanna in The Haunted Manor and Neala in Paria by Stanisław Moniuszko; Maria in Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Mazeppa; Pamina in The Magic Flute, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, and the Countess in The Marriage of Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; Nedda in Ruggero Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci; Antonia in Jacques Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann; Elvira in Gioacchino Rossini’s The Italian Girl in Algiers; Xenia in Modest Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov; Eve in Krzysztof Penderecki’s Paradise Lost; Orione in Amadigi and Romilda in Xerxes by George Frideric Handel; Freia in Richard Wagner’s Das Rheingold; and Aldona in Amilcare Ponchielli’s I Lituani.
She has sung lead soprano roles in concert performances of Hector Berlioz’s Les Troyens, Béla Bartók’s Bluebeard's Castle, Giacomo Puccini’s Suor Angelica and Il Tabarro, and Ottorino Respighi’s Il Tramonto. She also successfully performs oratorio and cantata repertoire, including the Stabat Mater by Antonín Dvořák, Karol Szymanowski, and Giovanni Battista Pergolesi; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Great Mass in C minor; Verdi’s Requiem; Johann Sebastian Bach’s Magnificat; Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9; and Krzysztof Penderecki’s Dies Irae, A Polish Requiem, Credo, and Seven Gates of Jerusalem, as well as Henryk Mikołaj Górecki’s Symphony No. 3.
In January 2001, she participated in the world premiere of Wojciech Kilar’s Missa pro Pace (a work dedicated to the Warsaw Philharmonic on its centenary). In 2003, she took part in the Polish National Opera’s Japanese tour (Turandot). She also performed at a New Year’s concert in Osaka as a soloist with members of the Vienna Philharmonic (Johann Strauss Ensemble).
Izabella Kłosińska has appeared as a guest performer in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Eindhoven, Hanover, Dortmund, Leipzig, Dresden, Berlin, Hamburg, Zurich, Bern, London, Glasgow, the Vatican, Tallinn, as well as in South Korea, Japan, Venezuela, Brazil, and the United States. She sang in American productions of King Roger in Buffalo and Detroit and took part in the American premiere of Dvořák's oratorio Saint Ludmila (Carnegie Hall), as well as in auditions and preparations for the title role in Dvořák's Rusalka at the Metropolitan Opera. She has participated in festivals in Alicante, Maastricht, and Bayonne, as well as the "Warsaw Autumn" and "Wratislavia Cantans" festivals.
She has made numerous sound, radio, and television recordings. She has recorded most of Krzysztof Penderecki's works on CD and DVD. Her performance of arias recorded for Polish Radio was recognized as the best recording of 1990. In 2006, she received an award in Japan for the recording of Penderecki’s A Polish Requiem conducted by Antoni Wit (the Record Academy Award 2005, presented by the Japanese music magazine "Geijutsu" for the best recording of contemporary music).
In 1996, Izabella Kłosińska was named "Diva of the Year" in a ranking by the "Weekly Review" ("Przegląd Tygodniowy") magazine. In 1999, she received the Award of the Minister of Culture and Art for achievements in vocal music, and in 2000, she was honored with the Andrzej Hiolski Award for the best opera role of the 1999-2000 season: Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly. She has also been decorated with the "Gloria Artis" Medal for Merit to Culture.
Ma na swoim koncie wiele nagrań płytowych, radiowych i telewizyjnych. Zarejestrowała na płyty CD i DVD większość dzieł Krzysztofa Pendereckiego. Arie w jej wykonaniu, nagrane dla Polskiego Radia, uznano za najlepsze nagranie roku 1990. W 2006 otrzymała nagrodę w Japonii za rejestrację Polskiego Requiem Pendereckiego pod dyrekcją Antoniego Wita (Record Academy Award 2005, przyznawaną przez japoński magazyn muzyczny „Geijutsu” za najlepsze nagranie muzyki współczesnej).
Izabela Kłosińska w 1996 została wybrana „Divą Roku” w rankingu „Przeglądu Tygodniowego”. W 1999 otrzymała Nagrodę Ministra Kultury i Sztuki za osiągnięcia w dziedzinie muzyki wokalnej, w 2000 – Nagrodę im. Andrzeja Hiolskiego za najlepszą rolę operową sezonu 1999/2000: Cio-Cio-San w Madama Butterfly. Została też odznaczona Medalem „Zasłużony Kulturze Gloria Artis”.
