cellist, chamber musician and educator; b. 26th July 1947 in Nieporęt. In 1972 he graduated from the State Higher School of Music in Warsaw (currently: Fryderyk Chopin University of Music).
In the years 1966-68 he was a member of the National Philharmonic Chamber Music Ensemble conducted by Karol Teutsch. In 1972, together with Jan Tawroszewicz, he formed string quartet "Kwartet Polski". The artists won awards in several competition - they received the 1st prize in Colmar, 2nd prize in Belgrad and 3rd prize in Munich. The quartet made many recordings for radio stations in Germany, Switzerland, France and Poland (including the album for Polskie Nagrania "Muza" label).
In the years 1972-73 Andrzej Wróbel worked in the National Philharmonic Orchestra. Between 1972 and 1985 he was a concert master of the Warsaw Chamber Opera Orchestra. Together with Jerzy Maksymiuk, he established the Polish Chamber Orchestra. In 1986 he founded Camerata Vistula ensemble, with which he still gives concerts in Europe and the United States and records albums which gain much critical acclaim. The artist performs also as a soloist, presenting both classical and contemporary repertoire.
He is the author of transcriptions for chamber ensemble of Fryderyk Chopin’s works for piano and orchestra. He also arranged Six Epigraphes Antiques by Claude Debussy for string orchestra, and Piano Sextet and Dramatic Scene by Antoni Stolpe, as well as Piano Quintet by Józef Nowakowski for string quartet.
In 2003 he initiated and organized Polish Chamber Music Festival. Since 1972 Andrzej Wróbel has been working as a lecturer at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.
