Modern Works for Violin & Accordion is the debut album of Vio-dion Duo, featuring original compositions of the 20th and 21st century for the violin and accordion. They have selected the pieces representing different forms and styles, such as minimalism, illustration, religiousness, neo-classicalism and virtuosity. Three of them are world premieres: Hunting by Leszek Kołodziejski, Sonata by Maciej Zimka and Tango-metamorphosen by Friedemann Amadeus Treiber. This two-disc album shows the incredible variety of original literature for violin and accordion.
VIio-Dion Duo is a fusion of two artists with different temperaments and two completely different instruments. On the one hand, the violin – an instrument of long-established tradition, designed for linear performance; on the other hand, the accordion – a relatively young instrument, whose modern design was developed only a few decades ago, intended for multi-voice performance. Malwina and Krzysztof Lutrzykowski have been performing together since 2011. They are graduates of F. Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz (MA programme) and of S. Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk (PhD programme). The artists were connected by their love of contemporary music, this album being the outcome. Vio-dion Duo is a winner of many international competitions (Canada, Croatia, Germany, Lithuania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Poland) and scholarships (the Marshal of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship Artistic Scholarship, the President of the City of Bydgoszcz Scholarship).
