Perkowski Piotr - Nokturn, Sinfonietta op.17, II Koncert skrzypcowy, Koncert wiolonczelowy (PRCD 138)
The CD dedicated to Piotr Perkowski, the eminent Polish composer, music tutor and culture organiser, was produced by the Polish Radio to celebrate the centenary of his birthday. The recorded works very well represent Perkowski’s highly individual style, marking also the key points of his career as a composer. The juvenile Sinfonietta, with its interesting sound colours, subscribes to the “Paris school” style; it is dedicated to the composer’s teacher Karol Szymanowski. The same French impressionist aesthetic can be traced in Nocturne, written already after the war. Perkowski’s mature individual musical language is eminently illustrated by Violin Concerto No. 2 and the Cello Concerto, masterly in their instrumentation, and combining expressionist with neo-Classical influences.
