Sonaty fletowe: Szeligowski, Perkowski, Regamey, Woytowicz (AP 0026)
The eminent flutist Elżbieta Gajewska has recorded four of the most valuable 20th-century Polish flute compositions. In the booklet she admits to her highly subjective attitude to these works “whose composers, except for C. Regamey, I have had the chance to meet in person”. Professor Szeligowski she met as a little child as he was a guest in her family home; he wrote for her several children’s miniatures for piano. She was introduced to Perkowski as a student of Warsaw’s Music Academy. Then at a Warsaw concert she had the opportunity to perform the Woytowicz Sonata in the presence of the composer himself.
All the four flute sonatas were written in the neo-Classicist style. Gajewska clearly highlights their fundamental qualities: the carefully woven melodic line, the occasional exposition of a strong rhythmic drive (Szeligowski), the references to Polish folk music (Woytowicz).
