XXII volume (2024) of the “Polish Musicology Yearbook", titled "Polish Music. Creators – Issues – Contexts"

The content of volume XXII (2024) of the “Polish Musicology Yearbook”, titled "Muzyka polska. Twórcy – problemy – konteksty" (Polish Music. Creators – Issues – Contexts), has been published in open access on the journal's website.

The latest volume presents articles created in connection with the 52nd Musicological Conference of the Polish Composers' Union, which took place in 2023 in Rzeszów and Strzyżów.

The first section of the volume (Creators) includes three articles. Maria Wilczek-Krupa revives the memory of Emil Łapczyński. Marta Szoka examines the complex relationship between conducting activities and the compositional works of Paweł Klecki, Jan Krenz, and Stanisław Skrowaczewski. Barbara Literska presents an alphabetical lexicon of the ten most important composers active in Zielona Góra since 1945, detailing their profiles and achievements.

The second section (Issues) features articles by Luba Kijanowska-Kamińska and Ewa Kowalska-Zając. The first author explores the problem of Ukrainian composers absorbing influences from Polish musical culture in the context of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Ewa Kowalska-Zając addresses the issue of idiomatic notation in Polish compositions from the second half of the last century.

The third section (Contexts) presents contextual perspectives on Polish music. First, Andrea Bohlman presents her research on the concept of boycotts as a form of political protest, with particular emphasis on their musical and performative aspects. Renata Suchowiejko analyzes the letters of Zygmunt Mycielski to Nadia Boulanger. Finally, Aleksandra Kłaput-Wiśniewska examines the relationship between the compositions of Romuald Twardowski and the Musica Antiqua Europae Orientalis festivals held in Bydgoszcz.

The publication is enriched with an article on Shostakovich's music for animated films, expanding the research spectrum and fulfilling the journal's goal of presenting the work of researchers from various academic centers.
