The Silesian Center for Freedom and Solidarity in Katowice announces the 2nd "Symphony of Memory" Composition Competition, the subject of which is to compose a melody with accompaniment lasting from 2 to 8 minutes to the words of a poem by Maciej Bieniasz Pancra. The deadline for submitting online applications together with the works is September 30, 2024, at 23:59.
The aim of the Competition is to commemorate the anniversary of the pacification of the "Wujek" mine and to promote young composers whose works will be performed during concerts organized by the Silesian Center for Freedom and Solidarity and the Silesian Philharmonic.
Only adults can participate in the Competition. One participant may submit no more than two works.
The partner of the Competition is Silesian Philharmonic in Katowice. The chairman of the jury will be composer Adam Wesołowski - director of the Philharmonic. This is where the best work, according to the Jury, will be presented during the concert on December 12. The winner will also receive a prize of PLN 2,000. The organizers also provide for the possibility of arranging the winning composition for an orchestra.
