The 6th "ArteFonie" Composition Competition

The Art’n’Voices Vocal Ensemble and the Association of Young Artists of the Wejherowo Region invite composers to participate in the 6th edition of the Composition Competition held as part of the "ArteFonie" Festival. This invitation is extended to creators who wish to push the boundaries of a cappella music. The application deadline is August 5, 2026.

This year’s edition embraces improvisation—an element that has long been a hallmark of performances by Art’n’Voices, the organizers of both the Festival and the Competition. The ensemble encourages participants to treat improvisation not merely as an addition, but as a deliberately planned unpredictability that breathes life into the composition's structure.

The competition is open to all composers, regardless of age, nationality, or institutional affiliation.

The objective of the competition is a work for an a cappella vocal ensemble based on the text Under the Surface by Marta Jundziłł. The composition should incorporate improvisational elements and may include divisi in selected sections, up to a maximum of eight voices. For the purpose of this competition, improvisational elements are defined as situations where the composition is shaped entirely through aleatoric techniques, or where the underdetermination of specific musical parameters occurs only in fragments designated by the composer.

Each participant may submit a maximum of three scores. The duration of each piece should be between 3 and 5 minutes.

The winner will receive a prize of 5,000 PLN, and the winning composition will be included in the Art’n’Voices Virtual Library. The work might also be premiered by the ensemble.
