The 2nd Silesian Composers' Competition

The 2nd Silesian Composers' Competition will be held within the 17th Silesian Festival of Choral Song "Magnificat". Its objective is to motivate Silesian composers to create choral works, especially pieces intended for amateur vocal ensembles. The deadline for submitting scores is August 31, 2026.

The competition is open to composers holding Polish citizenship. Adult participants of any age who are registered residents of the Silesian Voivodeship are eligible to enter the competition.

The subject of the competition is composing a piece, a medley, or a cycle of pieces for mixed choir utilizing Silesian folk songs from the collections of Adolf Dygacz, and/or to arrange a sacred choral song based on traditional Polish church hymns from the leading hymnals of the dioceses within the Silesian Voivodeship.

The Competition will be held in two categories:

1. a piece based on a secular folk song or a sacred piece based on a traditional church hymn (duration – up to 6 minutes);

2. a medley or a cycle based on a secular folk song (duration – up to 10 minutes).

Competition participants may submit their own compositions in both categories.

Submitted compositions will be evaluated anonymously by the Jury, therefore using the participant's name and surname in files containing the score is strictly prohibited.

The Competition Organizer, i.e. the Silesian Association of Choirs and Orchestras, intends to select a single winning composition in each category. The prize includes: a cash award of PLN 2,000, the publication of the piece in print by the SZChiO "Śpiewak Śląski" Publishing House, and a public performance of the winning composition during the "Magnificat" festival.
