"New Start – New Stars" - Festival of the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz

Information about the event | Bydgoszcz | 15 October 2025

The Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz is opening a new chapter in its history in October 2025 — after 50 years of activity, it is moving to one of the most modern music campuses in Europe.

To mark this milestone and fully showcase the potential and outstanding acoustics of the newly opened concert halls, the Academy is launching its first artistic season in the new venue with a year-long festival titled "New Start – New Stars", running from October 15, 2025, to October 15, 2026.

The festival will serve as a reminder of the unique community of Masters and their students that the Bydgoszcz Academy has brought together — a group exceptional not only in Poland but across Europe.

Among the invited artists is Rafał Blechacz, winner of the International Chopin Piano Competition and the Academy’s most distinguished graduate, who will perform in a duet with Bomsori Kim, laureate of the 15th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition.

During the symphonic concert, we will hear Mariusz Patyra, professor of the Academy’s Violin Department and the only Polish winner of the Niccolò Paganini International Violin Competition in Genoa.

The Warsaw Royal Opera ensemble will present the opera Hi§tory by professor Michał Dobrzyński — a work that had a sensational premiere during the Year of Witold Gombrowicz, based on the writer’s final, unfinished play.

The Energy Chamber Orchestra – the Academy’s student ensemble and one of its most exciting projects in recent years – will perform twice during the festival. Under the direction of Paweł Zalejski, one of Europe’s most acclaimed chamber musicians and leader of the Apollon Musagète Quartett, the orchestra will present his original project based on Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons in October.

In December, the orchestra will perform alongside Soyoung Yoon, winner of the Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition.

Also appearing at the festival will be Karol Mossakowski, an outstanding young-generation organist, and Tomasz Ritter, winner of the 1st International Chopin Competition on Period Instruments in Warsaw.

And this is only part of what this year’s edition of the festival has to offer.
