6th Katowice Days of Henryk Mikołaj Górecki

FS

Between November 16 and December 1, 2018 six different concerts of all three artistic ensembles of the Silesian Philharmonic and invited guests will be held as part of the 6th Katowice Days of Henryk Mikołaj Górecki.

The concerts evoke the memory of the patron of the Festival, who this year would be 85 years old. The motto of the event are the words of Paul VI: "This world in which we live needs beauty in order not to sink into despair".

The opening concert (November 16) will feature Isle of the dead by Sergei Rachmaninov and Symphony No. 3 by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki. According to the tradition, it will also premiere a new work by Mikołaj Górecki. This year it will be Concerto for clarinet and orchestra, which was written as part of the ministerial programme "Composing Commissions". It is dedicted to Professor Roman Widaszek, who will perform the work along with the Symphony Orchestra of the Silesian Philharmonic under the baton of Jacek Rogala.

On November 24 we will hear Three pieces in old style and Concerto for harpsichord and string orchestra by H.M. Górecki as well as works by Karol Szymanowski, Erich Korngold and Krzysztof Penderecki. A special concert on the occasion of Penderecki's 85th birthday (November 25) is also included in the programme of the 6th Katowice Days.

The performance of Verdi's Requiem on November 30 will be a tribute to the Patron of the Festival. During the final concert, held within the cycle "The Connoisseur Philharmonic" on December 1, we will hear sounds of Górecki's beloved Tatra Mountains recalled by the Jan Karpiel Bułecka ensemble.
