The spring edition of the 9th Festival of Premieres "Polish New Music" will be held on 23-25 April 2021. Two April concerts will present six new compositions, which perfectly reflect the festival's theme – it is not only a celebration of new music, but above all of those who create it. Both concerts will be streamed online.
The opening concert on 23 April will show the variety of inspiration sources. Inspired by the birth of his son, Adam Bałdych incorporated into his work Theodor the sounds and music of his own childhood. In Desertification, Lidia Zielińska will talk about ecology, the fear of climate change and the challenges facing humanity. Marta Śniady's Soft music for sensitive gals will also raise problems of contemporary world. The composer will discuss women's rights, social pressure and inequalities in various areas of life.
The Sunday concert will focus on purely musical explorations. Joanna Woźny will examine the relationships between the orchestra and soloists (Kwartludium Ensemble), reaching for the baroque form of concerto grosso. The starting point for Mikołaj Laskowski's work were everyday activities and the sounds of our surroundings. The concert will close with a piece by Artur Zagajewski, inspired by the utopian architectural concept of Peter Cook, Plug-in city.
Before each concert, Piotr Matwiejczuk and Krzysztof Stefański will host online meetings with composers, during which the audience will also be able to ask questions. The meetings as part of the Motion Zone at the Festival of Premieres will be available online on the website www.nospr.org.pl, on the NOSPR and "Ruch Muzyczny" Facebook pages and on YouTube.
