In October 2018, for the first time in Poland, 100 doctors from the World Doctors Orchestra and an outstanding pianist Krzysztof Książek will perform on one stage to show their support in the fight against blood cancers.
On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the DKMS Foundation in Poland, two exceptional symphonic concerts will be performed by the World Doctors Orchestra. On 11th October at the National Philharmonic in Warsaw, and on 12th October at the ICE Congress Center in Kraków, the orchestra will perform Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 8 and, to underline the 100th anniversary of Poland's independence, Ignacy Jan Paderewski's Overture in E flat major. The orchestra will be joined by outstanding pianist Krzysztof Książek who will perform Piano Concerto in E minor, Op. 11 by Fryderyk Chopin.
The World Doctors Orchestra (WDO) was founded in 2007 and it combines the pleasure related to good music with global social responsibility regarding unlimited access to medical services. Two or three times a year one hundred doctors from nearly fifty countries replace their white gowns with evening outfits and give a concert in favor of the organisation operating in the health services sector and of people who need health care. Revenues from each concert are given to selected non-profit organizations. While their daily work focuses on treating specific patients, as an orchestra they popularize a conviction that neither the state border not political interests should limit access to primary health care. The founder and conductor of the orchestra is Stefan Willich, Prof. PhD. Doctors from WDO have already played almost 60 concerts in Dubai, USA, Japan, Spain, Cape Town. Poland is the 27th country on their concert tour. The intention of the event is to raise funds for the implementation of the statutory objectives of the DKMS Foundation and speak the language of music for the promotion of bone marrow donation in Poland and around the world.
