On the 28th of February, the outstanding cellist, chamber musician and teacher Andrzej Orkisz (1937-2024) died at the age of 86.
He studied cello with Józef Mikulski at the State Higher School of Music in Cracow and in Paris with Paul Tortelier.
In the years 1962-72 he was deputy concertmaster and concertmaster of the Warsaw Philharmonic
Andrzej Orkisz has performed as a soloist in Poland, many European countries and Mexico. He also worked as a chamber musician - in the years 1969-85 he was a member of the Warsaw Piano Quintet.
He has made numerous recordings for the Polish Radio and Polish Television, as well as for Polskie Nagrania and Olimpia record companies.
In the years 1969-84, Andrzej Orkisz taught at the Academy of Music in Warsaw, in the years 1980-82 also at the Academy of Music in Cracow, and from 1984 to 1992 at the Conservatory in Tarbes (France). He also taught at the Academy of Music in Łódź (since 1992), at the Music School Complex No. 1 in Warsaw (since 1992) and at the Academy of Music in Warsaw (since 1997). In 1994 he received professor title. He was a jury member of Polish and international competitions.
