Bydgoszcz | "Philharmonic Under the Stars" and Ceremony of Naming the Philharmonic Square after Krzysztof Penderecki
The I.J. Paderewski Pomeranian Philharmonic in Bydgoszcz invites you on 13 August 2021 at 8.30 p.m. to an open-air concert accompanying the official ceremony of naming the square between the Philharmonic building and the Krzysztof Komeda square after Krzysztof Penderecki, in accordance with the resolution of the Bydgoszcz City Council of 30 June 2021.
On 29 March 2021 fell the first anniversary of the death of Maestro Penderecki, Honorary Citizen of Bydgoszcz, regular guest of the Pomeranian Philharmonic, both as a conductor and as a composer presenting his outstanding works, which still occupy an important place in the artistic plans of the Institution. During the upcoming concert, the Pomeranian Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Paweł Kapuła will perform his Three Pieces in Old Style, composed of music written by Penderecki for films: the lyrical Aria comes from the documentary Passacaglia to the Sigismund Chapel, and two Minuets – from the iconic film by Wojciech Jerzy Has The Saragossa Manuscript.
The programme will also include overtures to the operas Wilhelm Tell and The Barber of Seville by Gioacchino Rossini, the overture and habanera from Georges Bizet's Carmen, Polovtsian Dances from Act II of the opera Prince Igor by Aleksandr Borodin, Hungarian Dances by Johannes Brahms, and two movements from the famous Peer Gynt Suite by Edvard Grieg.
