Bytom | Premiere of the ballet "Salt of the Black Earth"

OSOn 19 June 2021 at 6.00 p.m., the Silesian Opera in Bytom will premiere the ballet Salt of the Black Earth, based on the film of the same title by Kazimierz Kutz. The performance, directed and choreographed by Artur Żymełka, reminds the next generation of Poles about the Silesian Uprisings and is an expression of respect for the heroes.

Kutz's film refers to important events in the history of Poland, taking place at the time of the formation of the Polish State. Their importance both at the premiere of the film in 1969 and today is marginalized in the broad consciousness of Poles. Therefore, it is important that contemporary art once again addresses the patriotic acts of the Silesian population.

The performance, which was created on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Silesian Uprisings, refers to the aesthetics of Kutz's work – it weaves elements of folklore, grotesque and crudeness into the complex language of choreographic expression and, most importantly, emphasizes the strength of tradition and the depth of regional identity characteristic of Silesia.

The music for the performance is composed of works by Silesian composers: Wojciech Kilar, Michał Spisak, Stefan Kisielewski, Bolesław Szabelski, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, with the moving third part of his Symphony of Sorrowful Songs, as well as Silesian songs.
