A special concert commemorating the 11th anniversary of Pope John Paul II’s death will be held on April 3, 2016 at the Warsaw Philharmonic.
The programme involves fragments of John Paul II’s Roman Triptych, Song of the Hidden God, and speech to the representatives of Polish culture (Warsaw, Church of the Holy Cross, 1987), as well as excerpts of Cyprian Kamil Norwid’s Promethidion, presented by Teresa Budzisz-Krzyżanowska, Anna Dymna and Wiesław Komasa. Pianist Maria Gabryś will perform piano music by Fryderyk Chopin and Karol Szymanowski, while Warsaw Philhamonic Orchestra and Choir under the baton of Jacek Kaspszyk will interpret Requiem in D minor K. 626 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The solo parts will be performed by Magdalena Schabowska (soprano), Joanna Gontarz (mezzosoprano), Tomasz Warmijak (tenor), and Przemysław Żywczok (bass).
The concert, held under the honorary patronage of the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda and Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz, Archbishop Metropolitan of Warsaw, is co-organized by the Society of Friends of the John Paul II Foundation and Intercultural Dialogue Institute of John Paul II.
