On April 24 – May 13, 2018, the Chamber Music Department at the Academy of Music in Krakow will host the 2nd International Festival of Piano Duet "Duettissimo!".
During the concerts that will take place at the Krakow Philharmonic and the Academy of Music, masterpieces of piano music will be performed. It will be an opportunity to hear works by our native composers: Improvisazione e toccata by Romuald Twardowski and Negro Spirituals by Roman Maciejewski on April 26, Tatra Album, Op. 12 by Ignacy Jan Paderewski on April 28, and À travers Pologne, danses et mélodies, Op. 23 by Juliusz Zarębski and Mazurek, Tarantella, Kołysanka, and Oberek by Roman Maciejewski on April 29.
As accompanying events, there will be master classes hosted by festival guests – Geoffrey Jennings Haydon and renowned Genova & Dymitrov Piano Duo, as well as a scientific conference "Piano Duet in Polish Music. Roman Maciejewski in Memoriam."
The aim of the festival is to emphasize the importance of the piano duo in chamber music and to restore the splendor of this somewhat forgotten ensamble, as well as gain the interest of performers and listeners in the extremely rich and attractive repertoire for piano duo.
