The 41st International Festival of Organ, Choral and Chamber Music in Gdańsk will be held between July 6 and August 31, 2018. The concerts will take place every Friday at 8.15 pm in St. Mary's Basilica. A special concert on the occasion of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary will take place on August 15.
Ten concerts will feature artists from the USA, Germany, Canada, Austria and Poland, who will perform a varied organ and choral repertoire covering the works presenting a wide range of styles: from early masterpieces of organ music, through the well-known compositions of classic to contemporary music, and even jazz. During the inaugural concert on July 6, we will hear, among others, Tones for the trumpet and organ performed by the composer Andrzej Szadejko on the organ and Paweł Hulisz on trumpet.
The wonderful acoustics and unique atmosphere of the place, which is Europe's largest brick St. Mary's church, guarantee every listener a wide range of aesthetic and musical experiences. The concerts are a unique opportunity to visit this important cultural, spiritual and historical center, being a showcase of the City of Gdańsk, and to hear the unusual sound of the organ there.
The organ installed in the St. Mary's Basilica in Gdańsk are the work of the Hillebrand brothers from Hanover, and their prospectus, together with the playing pipes, comes from the Merten Friesen's organ from 1627 from the church of St. John.
Tickets priced from 15-25 PLN can be purchased online and in the Basilica one hour before the concert.
