Katowice | 9th Festival of Premieres: Barbara Kinga Majewska's Sound Installation

NOSPRBarbara Kinga Majewska's sound installation A Narrow Passage With Steep Walls will be presented for the first time on 10 October 2021 at. 4.00 p.m. in the NOSPR foyer as part of the 9th Festival of Premieres. The installation tells the story of an opera set design element, which becomes a source of sounds.

Barbara Kinga Majewska describes her installation as a sound sculpture with live music: the composer herself will participate in the premiere, as well as the violist Aleksandra Batog and the cellist Danuta Sobik-Ptok.

The starting point for the installation is the theatrical horizon from the staging of the opera Valkyrie by Richard Wagner – 36 meters long and 7 meters wide, hand-painted canvas. During the performances, it was hanging from a batten at the back of the stage, thus closing the performance space. In 1989, after fourteen performances, it ended up in the magazine and remained there for the next 30 years. This year, it will be moved to the foyer of the NOSPR Concert Hall in Katowice. With the use of speakers, it will emit sounds and engage in a dialogue with the musicians.
