On the 19th of June, 2022 at 6.00 p.m. at the premises of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, a concert on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of joining part of Upper Silesia to Poland will take place. José Maria Florêncio will conduct the orchestra while pianist Piotr Sałajczyk will perform as soloist.
In June, one hundred years have passed since the entry of the Polish Army into Katowice. After three uprisings and a plebiscite, Poland officially took over the power in the part of Upper Silesia that had been assigned to it. On the 20th of June, 1922, General Stanisław Szeptycki, at the head of his troops, entered the Katowice market square from the side of Szopienice, welcomed by the inhabitants and the authorities. The culmination of this symbolic event was the signing of the Act of Acquisition of Upper Silesia by the government of the Republic of Poland less than a month later, on the 16th of July.
Katowice is celebrating this exceptional anniversary with a series of events that will culminate in a concert of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice.
