The concert opening the cycle, organized in order to commemorate the Patron of the Philharmonic (b. 6 December 1933 – d. 12 November 2010), will feature the performance of Johannes Brahms’s Ein Deutsches Requiem Op. 45 interpreted by Marta Boberska (soprano), Jarosław Bręk (baritone) and Choir and Symphony Orchestra of the Silesian Philharmonic under the baton of Michael Zilm.
The programme of subsequent concerts (November 21, 27 and December 6) includes works by Mikołaj Górecki (Concerto-Notturno for violin and string orchestra, Trio Concerto for clarinet, horn, piano and string orchestra), Henryk Mikołaj Górecki (Three Pieces in Old Style for string orchestra), Joseph Haydn (Symphony in F minor No. 49 ”La passione”), Sergei Rachmaninoff (Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor Op. 18), Dmitri Shostakovich (Symphony in D minor Op. 47), Johann Sebastian Bach, Claude Debussy, Max Reger, George Gershwin and Hans Uwe Hielscher.
