Katowice | Paderewski in Silesia

FSA symphonic concert on 29 October 2021 at 7.00 p.m. at the Silesian Philharmonic will commemorate the 120th anniversary of the only concert of Ignacy Jan Paderewski in Silesia: it was held in the building that has housed the Philharmonic since 1945. The Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Marcin Nałęcz-Niesiołowski and the pianist Krzysztof Książek will perform works by Ignacy Jan Paderewski as well as Karol Szymanowski and Mieczysław Karłowicz.

The concert will begin with Paderewski's Overture in E flat major, dating from the composer's adolescent period. It will be a kind of introduction to his Piano Concerto in A minor. The soloist will be Krzysztof Książek, a semi-finalist and winner of two non-statutory prizes at the 17th International Fryderyk Chopin Competition in Warsaw (2015) and winner of the 3rd prize and a special prize for the best performance of mazurkas at the 1st International Chopin Competition on Period Instruments (2018).

The third item on the programme will be Karol Szymanowski's Etude in B flat minor, orchestrated by Grzegorz Fitelberg. It is the best known etude in the entire series of Op. 4. Ot was popularized by none other than Ignacy Jan Paderewski, of course in its original piano version. The concert will end with the Eternal Songs symphonic poem by Mieczysław Karłowicz.
