Katowice | Premiere of Eugeniusz Knapik's "Podróż długa"
The premiere of the latest piece by Eugeniusz Knapik entitled Podróż długa [The Long Journey], created as part of the "Composing Commissions" programme of the Institute of Music and Dance, will take place on 30 October 2020 at 7.00 p.m. at the Henryk Mikołaj Górecki Silesian Philharmonic in Katowice.
Podróż długa is a continuation of Eugeniusz Knapik's I am Coming to You for mezzo-soprano and string orchestra composed many years ago, and is dedicated to Professor Mieczysław Tomaszewski on the occasion of his 80th birthday. The text is based on poems by Edward Stachura and Zbigniew Herbert. The piece will be premiered by the Silesian Philharmonic Choir and the Silesian Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Maciej Tomasiewicz. The solo parts will be performed by soprano Monika Sendrowska and baritone Tomasz Rak. The programme of the concert will also include pieces by Gustav Mahler, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Vivaldi.
