FS 28.4.23

Media patronage: Polish Music Information Centre POLMIC

Carter Johnson – a pianist, winner of the 2nd International Competition of Polish Music together with the Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra conducted by Yaroslav Shemet, will perform on the 28th of April, 2023 at 19.00. He will perform Piano Concerto by Edvard Grieg.

In addition to the Norwegian accent, the programme also features a Finnish element, in the form of Jean Sibelius' Symphonic Poem ‘Finlandia’, and a Polish one - one of Witold Lutosławski's most famous works, i.e. his Concerto for Orchestra.

In this work, we will find folk motifs from the collection Mazowsze by Oskar Kolberg, which are subjected to all kinds of processing and modifications. The work was commissioned by Witold Rowicki, and the source of inspiration for it can be found in Béla Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra.
