On 15 June 2021 at 6.30 p.m., the Oskar Kolberg Świętokrzyska Philharmonic in Kielce will become the stage for Polish music: pianist Jacek Kortus will perform works by Franciszek Lessel, Antoni Stolpe and Józef Wieniawski.
The "Stage for Polish Music" is a project aimed at Polish music performers, organised by the National Institute of Music and Dance in collaboration with the Warsaw Philharmonic and arts institutions in Poland. Programmes featuring Polish music, selected on the basis of a competition, are presented at the Warsaw Philharmonic Chamber Hall and then repeated in other cities in Poland. The goal of the project is to inspire musicians to prepare concert programmes featuring Polish music, promote the performance of Polish musical works as well as draw listeners’ attention to Polish music, especially lesser known pieces.
The next concert as part of this programme will be performed by Jacek Kortus. The pianist graduated with honours from the I. J. Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań, where he studied with Prof. Waldemar Andrzejewski. Currently, he works as an assistant at the Academy's Piano Department. He is a laureate of many international and national piano competitions, incl. the 1st prize and "Grand Prix" at the 9th International Chopin Competition in Antonin (2005) and an honourable mention at the 15th International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw (2005). Jacek Kortus has performed at leading philharmonics in Poland and abroad. In 2017, he was awarded the Decoration of Honour "Meritorious for Polish Culture" by the Minister of Culture.
