This year, the International Festival "Music in the Cathedral" reaches the age of majority. Its 18th edition will last until 23rd August 2018.
The festival refers to the musical traditions of Kolobrzeg, dating back to the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, when it was famous not only as a fortress and a resort attracting visitors and tourists, but also as a center of musical culture. As in the pre-war period, concerts in the Gothic Cathedral make the stay in the city more attractive.
The festival will be attended by two orchestras of international music workshops under the direction of Jan Miłosz Zarzycki and Jan Stanienda. In the finale we will hear Saint Martin's Orchestra from Poznań under the direction of Piotr Deptuch. Large musical forms will be interwoven with chamber music performed by: Alexander Gebert – cello, Maciej Frąckiewicz – accordion, Lucy Kay – soprano, Orbis Quartett, Paweł Zadrożniak – trumpet, Michał Kocot – organ. The participation of the latter is a prize of the Regional Cultural Center in Kołobrzeg for the winner of the 6th Feliks Nowowiejski International Organ Competition. We will listen to works from Bach and Mozart, to Karłowicz, Schnittke and Penderecki, as well as many surprises that artists will provide us with during the summer evenings.
