Navigatio Desiderium, a concert heralding the new "Sacrum Profanum: Canon" series, will take place on 30 June 2021 at ICE Krakow. The Theatre Hall will host a performance of Lemelki, a new composition by Piotr Tabakiernik commissioned by the Polish Radio Choir to mark the Year of Stanisław Lem, and a piece by Italian composer Francesco Filidei, which will be performed by instrumentalists of the New Music Orchestra.
Piotr Tabakiernik's new composition for actor, choir, violin, viola, cello, double bass and percussion, based on Stanisław Lem's writings, goes far beyond the musical framework, being in fact a paratheatrical performative piece. As explained by the composer himself: "Despite its funny-sounding name and a good dose of humor written into the score, it touches on issues fundamental to our existence. Lem’s desire to know is constantly present, both in the youthful poem that begins the piece, and in the personal conversations of the mature artist with Stanisław Beres, on the basis of which the final part was written. At the same time, as if between the lines, there appears a desire that goes one step further: to see. One can guess that the more conscious we are of the fact that our life is passing by and we are approaching an inevitable end, the more burning this desire becomes, even when – like Lem – we declare ourselves believers only in what is tangible and verifiable. The tension between ignorance and knowledge, between the darkness of faith and the light of eyes, and finally, between Lem’s and my own, gave rise to Lemelki".
Co-financed under the "Music" programme implemented by the National Institute of Music and Dance .
