Kraków | Olivier Messiaen and Krakow composers

The Krakow Branch of Polish Composers' Union invites you to a concert accompanying the opening of the exhibition "The presence of Olivier Messiaen's music in Poland". The event will take place on December 10, 2018 at 6.00 p.m. at the Jagiellonian Library, 22 Mickiewicza Ave. (entrance from 3 Oleandry St.).

The curator of the exhibition, which will be open from December 11, 2018 to January 25, 2019, is Dr. h.c. Jerzy Stankiewicz – an outstanding Polish expert on music and life of Olivier Messiaen. Composers, performers, musicologists, promoters, painters, families of prisoners from Görlitz and lovers of Messiaen music from all over Poland will meet during the vernissage of the exhibition. Then there will be a concert "Olivier Messiaen and Krakow composers: Krzysztof Penderecki, Zbigniew Bujarski and Marek Stachowski", organized on the 110th anniversary of the birth of Olivier Messiaen by dr hab. Marcel Chyrzyński – president of the board of the Krakow Branch of Polish Composers' Union.

For the first time in Poland, we will hear La Fauvette passerinette for piano (1961), reconstructed by Peter Hill and published by Faber Music, London in 2015. It will be performed by prof. Andrzej Tatarski who has been promoting the music of the French Master since the 1960s. The programme will also include such compositions as: La Colombe from Preludes for piano (1928-1929), Fantasia for violin and piano (1933) and Poèmes pour Mi – four selected pieces from the cycle for soprano and piano to words of the composer (1936): Paysage, Les deux guerriers, Le Collier, Prière exaucèe.

The evening will be complemented by works of Krakow composers: Krzysztof PendereckiThree Miniatures for clarinet and piano (1956), Zbigniew Bujarski – Birds' Fear for violin, viola and percussion (1993) and Marek StachowskiMiroir du Temps for violin, clarinet , cello and piano (2002-2003), part IV. Mystère du Temps. Performers: Aleksandra Zamojska (soprano), Dominika Peszko (piano), Agnieszka Bugla (violin), Natalia Warzecha-Karkus (viola), Pola Benke (cello), Barbara Borowicz (clarinet), Bartosz Sałdan (percussion).
