"Kresy - Bezkresy" Festival 2024

The "Kresy - Bezkresy" festival, dedicated to the multicultural heritage of the Polish Borderlands, will be held in Tykocin again! Nearly 40 events are planned on August 16-19, 2024: screenings of documentary and feature films, concerts, literary, historical and theatrical meetings, an exhibition and workshops for children. The main motto of the Festival will be "The Great Path of General Anders".

Writers, intellectuals, stage artists, painters and actors left Stalinist Russia together with Anders. During this long journey, various works of art and chronicle accounts were created. Later, these outstanding artists decided on the shape of Polish culture of the 20th century (led by Jerzy Giedroyc's "Kultura" community). During the festival we will see a new interpretation of achievements of these artists, as well as new works of art based on their texts and films. Particular attention will be devoted to the Battle of Monte Cassino on the 80th anniversary of this event in 2024.

We will see, among others: films Ordonek and Henryk Wars. Songwriter of Warsaw. On August 16, Marian Hemar's songs will be performed by Maciej Klociński. On August 17, Miłosz Pękala and Bartłomiej Zajkowski will take us into the world of musical contemplation: in the Great Synagogue in Tykocin, they will present their improvisations for the first time, the theme of which will be "Exodus". On August 18, in the Church of the Holy Trinity, the Ensemble Quatro Vocce, Bartłomiej Pałyga and Bartłomiej Zajkowski will premiere a series of compositions by Szymon Sutor, The Marrow of Existence, with words by Marian Czuchnowski. Miłosz Pękala and Bartłomiej Zajkowski will also be responsible for the musical layer of the poetry evening on August 19 at the Talmudical House: for the first time we will hear poems by Natalia Malek and Adrian Sinkowski, commissioned by the Festival, dedicated to the former inhabitants of Tykocin.

The program will be accompanied by free workshops for children "Wojtek the Bear" prepared by the Polish History Museum.

For all events taking place in the Alumnate and the church of St. Trinity, admission is free. Tickets for events co-organized with the Podlasie Museum in Tykocin cost PLN 10.
