Julia Kociuban's piano recital on the occasion of the Year of Polish Romanticism and the Third of May National Day will take place on the 3rd of May 3 2022 at the Łódź Philharmonic. The concert will be available on the streaming portal www.drzwidokultury.pl.
The Polonaise is the most important and oldest Polish dance with a rich history. In the era of Romanticism polonaises were composed, among others, by Józef Elsner, Karol Kurpiński, Michał Kleofas Ogiński, Maria Szymanowska and above all by Fryderyk Chopin, who created not only stylized dances, but also - especially in the last period of his work - dance poems in the form of a polonaise.
During the concert stylized polonaises by Józef Wieniawski, a piano virtuoso, composer and teacher famous in Europe; Juliusz Zarębski, a student of Franz Liszt; the now almost completely forgotten Alfons Szczerbiński, a student of Edward Grell and Waldemar Bargiel who acted primarily as a music teacher will be performed. Works of Ignacy Jan Paderewski, pianist, patriot, politician and independence activist will also be presented to the audience.
The concert will promote the new album of pianist Julia Kociuban titled Polish Polonaises. It will be published by the DUX label on the day of the recital.
