Elżbieta Dziębowska, Polish musicologist and chief editor of the Music Encyclopedia published by PWM Edition, died at the age of 87 on April 4, 2016.
During World World II she attended the Kochanowski Girls' Secondary School in Warsaw. In 1943 she joined the scouting troop Szare Szeregi under the alias "Dewajtis". She was a soldier and liaison officer of the "Pegaz" battalion during the Warsaw Uprising.
Having finished the college in Warsaw after the war, she graduated in musicology at the Warsaw University in 1957. She was a lecturer at the Institute of Musicology of the Warsaw University (1954-70), Jagiellonian University (1970-89) and at the Academy of Music in Krakow (1973-83).
