Online choral concert in memory of Krzysztof Penderecki

FKA choral concert in memory of Krzysztof Penderecki – a great man, friend of the Krakow Philharmonic – will be held on 29 April 2021 at 7.00 p.m. The Philharmonic Choir will present the composer's famous sacred works. Live broadcast will be available on YouTube.

The Krakow Philharmonic Choir, conducted by Maciej Tworek, will perform Penderecki's Song of Cherubim, Missa brevis, O gloriosa Virginum, Agnus Dei from Polish Requiem and Stabat Mater from St Luke Passion.

Krzysztof Penderecki was associated with the Karol Szymanowski Philharmonic from the beginning of his musical career. In 1958, he performed his diploma composition – Andante and Allegro for string orchestra and timpani, today known as Epitaphium Artur Malawski in memoriam – as a student of the State Higher School of Music in Krakow. On 22 April 1966, the Orchestra, Mixed Choir and Boys' Choir of the Krakow Philharmonic conducted by Henryk Czyż performed the Polish premiere of his St Luke Passion. After a series of concerts in Poland and Europe, this monumental work was recorded by the ensembles of the Krakow Philharmonic under the direction of Czyż, receiving the prestigious Grand Prix du Disque in 1967. In 1988-1990, Penderecki was formally the artistic director of the Krakow Philharmonic, where he later conducted numerous performances of his works, including Polish Requiem. He once said that "only homo religiosus can consider redemption". He also emphasized that the greatest discovery of mankind, of man, is God.
