'Opera about Warsaw – The Best City in the World' - musical monument to the post-war builders of the capital

The Opera about Warsaw – The Best City in the World project has been launched, under which a new opera will be created for a large cast, commemorating the effort to rebuild Warsaw after World War II. The organizer of the project is Sinfonia Varsovia, which is working on it together with partner institutions: Grand Theater - National Opera, the International Festival of Contemporary Music ‘Warsaw Autumn’ and the Museum of Warsaw. The premiere of the finished work is planned for 2025.

The opera's libretto will be based on motifs from Grzegorz Piątek's book The Best City in the World. Warsaw in Reconstruction 1945–1949, awarded, among others, Literary Award of the Capital City of Warsaw and the Historical Award of the Capital City of Warsaw and nominated for the ‘Nike’ Literary Award.

The work will be performed on a large stage and by a symphony orchestra, soloists, choir, dancers, together with electronics and audiovisual projections. The work is to be communicative, and at the same time modern, using new means of expression and contemporary musical language, with an innovative approach to traditional operatic forms.
