A Pole and a French. The first of them - a jazz pioneer in Poland. The second one is one of the leading representatives of musical impressionism. Two composers, two parts of the evening - in this arrangement, it is actually two concerts during one visit to the Opole Philharmonic, on the 12th of April, 2024 at 7 p.m.
In the minds of Poles, Henryk Wars functions primarily as the author of music to well-known songs: Och, jak przyjemnie [Oh, how nice], Taki ze mnie zimny drań, [I'm such a cold bastard], or Miłość Ci wszystko wybaczy [Love will forgive you everything], but it would be a great oversight to confine him only to these entertaining frames. Working in Los Angeles, he created soundtracks for films and symphonic works. The one-movement Piano Concerto and City Sketches, drawing the landscape of a busy city, come from this period. The orchestral suite consists of three movements: Skyscrapers, Downtown Blues and Highway Scherzo.
