Orphée by Dariusz Przybylski, one of the most significant premieres of 2015, will be presented again in the Warsaw Chamber Opera. The performances will be held on January 9 and 10, 2016.
This reimagined version of the story of poet Orpheus's descent into the underworld to retrieve his wife Eurydice was directed by Latvian artist Margo Zālīte and supervised by Maja Metelska (music director). Both the interpretation of the Greek myth and performance production are innovative. Orpheus’ internal conflict is symbolized by 3 soloists - Robert Gierlach (bass-baritone), Jan Jakub Monowid (countertenor) and Andrzej Klimczak (bass). The role of Eurydice is interpreted by Olga Pasiecznik and Barbara Zamek, and the part of main hero’s alter ego is performed by proMODERN – vocal ensemble specializing in performing contemporary music.
Orphée is the second project of Przybylski-Zālīte team. Previously the artists worked together on staging the opera Fall in Deutsche Oper Berlin, which won much critical acclaim.
